Do you have your word picked out? Do you know what I'm talking about?
Here’s how it works: You choose a word for the year - or one picks you. (May sound silly, but you’ll know if it happens.) The word could be a theme for the year ahead or something you want to explore. Maybe it's something you want to embody. Like strength or faith. You might want to court joy or create a groovy vibe for yourself. It's up to you.
Throughout the year, you can journal about your word. Dig in. Do research. Keep notes about your progress and experiences with it.
Don’t fret the bumps in the road. You might not identify with your word because it’s a difficult concept, or if it makes you feel uncomfortable. Explore this discomfort or frustration. You may decide to abandon your word and pick another one. Anything you decide is okay. This is your experiment.
2024 was a year of patience and focus for me. I had picked focus because I knew I wanted to focus on my writing, but at the same time, I also needed to focus on the business my hubby and I are building. I had less time available so focus was key. My hubby picked patience for me - and he was correct - because patience was something I needed (still do) to work on.
It honestly was an odd word year since I had two going at once. And because I didn't pick one of them.
That's not to say I haven't learned from the experience.
I am still working on patience, though I've come to realize my issues may be more with time management and discernment. I simply cannot do all the things I want.
Focus, too, will always be in the background. I make sure to ask myself what is most important to me, and in the places where I can choose, I wholeheartedly pour my energy into that one thing.
I am eager to move on. My word came to me in late October. I danced with it a bit and also played with another word that sounds a lot like it. I don't force my words. I trust that I'll have one by the time January 1 rolls around.
My word for 2025 is FIERCE. (Yes, I think it should be in all caps! Lol)
I feel like the energy of the year ahead may require me to be FIERCE. To get to know my fears and stare them straight in the eyes. To work through those things I'm afraid of. To be bold.
I'm excited for this year. I refuse to allow myself to fall into doomscrolling and anxiety. We're living in these interesting times together. For 2025, I choose to be FIERCE.
If you pick a word, what’s yours for this year? What do you think of my word? I’d love to know.

What a fascinating read, I had never thought of using a word in this context! Probably up to this year, the word I would have chosen was ‘survive’!
My 2025 word is “Potential”!
Thanks 😊
FIERCE!!! (all caps) A+ WOTY.
